No matter the season, there’s always auto upkeep to think about. Summer brings its own share of car care considerations, and by being attentive to them, you can ensure your Toyota continues to operate at its peak for as long as possible.

Take Care of Your Car This Summer

Make sure your battery is in good working order

Battery problems are especially common during the dog days of summer. Both high temperatures and internal vibration can cause your battery life to peter out. You can’t do much about the heat, but you can make sure vibration isn’t a problem, simply by verifying that your battery is mounted properly.

You always want to be careful when handling a car battery, and if you’re inexperienced, it’s wisest to just take your car into the service center for a full inspection.

Keep the engine cool

We mentioned heat, which can have an oppressive effect on your engine. Thankfully, your car comes with a cooling system to help you avert problems with high temperatures. Make sure you have that cooling system flushed out regularly. If you haven’t done so lately, now’s as good a time as any. Also, be sure the coolant level is topped off. Again, service center technicians can help you with any of this.

Check your tires

Driving on underinflated tires can cause them to overheat and ultimately fail. As such, it’s wise to take the time to check each tire — including your spare — once a month or so. Doing so will ensure it matches the factory-recommended PSI level. You can find this information in your owner’s manual.

Watch your oil level

Your engine oil plays a critical role in keeping the car from overheating. During the long, hot days of summer, that engine oil is really put through the paces. Use your dipstick to check the oil every month or so. If the oil level gets low, or if it appears dark or dirty, schedule an oil change.
